Returning and RESTING...
We have reached another Shabbat. Friday is a day of preparation to REST. Dinner. Challah. Clean. Laundry. I hate doing laundry on Saturday (although I will if something crazy happens). I want it to be my day to relax and NOT do what I normally do. I try to play a game. When it is nice outside we like to be outside. Take a walk.
A day of rest means a verse about REST! Here is a hidden gem in the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 30:15
For this is what Adonai Elohim,
the Holy One of Isra’el, says:
“Returning and resting is what will save you;
calmness and confidence will make you strong —
but you want none of this! (CJB)
Powerful words that God gave the prophet Isaiah. Words that are STILL true for today.
In returning and RESTING we will find our salvation. Remember, Jesus is our REST. “Come to me ALL who are weary and heavy laden, for I will give you REST.”
Adonai/God clearly tells us to remain calm. We can be confident in our calmness, but to be calm. In fact, this verse says that when we are calm, we are STRONG!
How often do we forget that we can be calm and show strength? It is NOT easy to do. We often think that we have to show power in order to be strong. But often calm and confident people show more strength than angry and insecure people.
Today’s world is BUSY. TOO busy. There is NO time for “returning to Adonai” or resting. We go along our crazy path and only sneak HIM in when there is time.
I firmly believe it is time for us to RETURN and REST. Stop and reflect on what that means for you.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rose
