No Time to be Idle
Proverbs 10:1-5
The proverbs of Shlomo:
A wise son is a joy to his father, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
2 No good comes from ill-gotten wealth, but righteousness rescues from death. 3 Adonai does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
4 Idle hands bring poverty; diligent hands bring wealth. 5 A sensible person gathers in summer, but he who sleeps during harvest is an embarrassment.
Chapter 10 is broken into smaller "words of wisdom" so I have kept it separated as you read.
Once again, these are basic Truths. Most of us know them.
I think we have all heard someone tell us, or we have told someone (especially our children as we try to teach them) that "idle hands bring poverty." It seems to be something discussed, but is it actually lived? Look at what our government is doing as we face this Covid pandemic. Free money handed out and now people don't want to work. Too much time on their hands and then they want to fight everything in the streets.
God's Word has Truth in it, but it must be LIVED in order to have LIFE. If we don't ACT on what we hear, nothing will happen! I just don't understand why others cannot grasp this concept. We must be DOERS of the Word and not hearers only!
There is so much we cannot change in the world. We cannot stop the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan. We cannot stop all the pain that is happening in Haiti because of the earthquake that happened. It breaks our hearts and we can pray. We can find solid resources to fund which can help those on the ground. But most of these things are out of our control and we must leave them in the hands of God.
What we need to do is make sure we are the LIGHT to those around us. We must make sure that we SHOW His love to those we meet. Make a difference where you are and DO His Truth in your neighborhood. THAT is living righteously.
Do your best not to "worry about tomorrow." Act in the NOW and the TODAY to make a difference. Being idle doesn't help. Take a day of REST, enjoy LIFE, but BE who HE wants you to be.
Love and blessings,
