Mother
What does the word mean?
"a woman in relation to her child or children."
This is the definition from the Oxford Languages Dictionary online.
It should go deeper than that. This explains the basic definition of mother. How a mother behaves and lives is much deeper than just a "relation."
As I was searching for a verse about mother's I found some I had not noticed before. They are in the book of Ezekiel, so part of a prophecy and lament for Israel. However, we must consider them a source of what mother's are, in essence, expected to do.
Ezekiel 19:1-2
“Moreover, raise a lament for the leaders of Isra’el; say:
‘What a mother you had — a lioness among lions! She lay down among young lions and reared her cubs.
Ezekiel 19:10
“‘Your mother was like a strong grapevine
planted by the water.
It was fruitful and luxuriant
because of the abundant water.
In Proverbs 1:8-9
My son, heed the discipline of your father,
and do not abandon the teaching of your mother;
they will be a garland to grace your head,
a medal of honor for your neck.
The mother is a protector (lioness). The mother is a provider (grapevine). The mother is a teacher.
The lines in our society are getting blurred. Who/What is a woman is being discussed more often than it should. It has to grieve the heart of our Creator when we question the biological differences He gave us. There is a difference in the make up of men and women and I don't believe we can deny that. How we choose to walk out those differences may not always look the same. God did create "tomboys" and "princesses" in our passions. Those are what make every person unique and special.
I don't want to turn this into a debate about gender differences and equalities, or what makes a man a man or a woman a woman. Those are discussions for face to face.
What I want us to realize is that God made two different biological sexes and we are different. Mother's are female/woman and they important in the eyes of our Father and Creator (I'm not saying Father's are not - today being Mother's Day I'm focusing on mothers/women). How they care for, and teach, their children is important. We cannot let this get blurred and changed. There are pieces to motherhood that are important to our society and when those aspects get stolen because people want to take away the understanding that we are biologically different - we will begin to have problems.
Mothers - teach your children and pray for them. Protect them and provide for them. Support them and walk with them as they face difficult choices and decisions. Strengthen yourself in the POWER of the Holy Spirit and HIS Words and then use that strength and pass it on to your children.
I'm thankful my mom never abandoned me in the middle of many challenging moments. LOVE YOU MOM!
Happy Mother's Day
Rose
