It took a "little" girl...
Today we were reading our Daily Torah portion. The portions lately have been about clean and unclean animals, and procedures the Israelites were required to do in their camp to keep everything healthy. There have also been portions about a form of leprosy and how to keep the disease from spreading throughout their community. This portion is why the half Torah (reading from the prophets) took us to the book of 2 Kings and the story of Naaman. These three verses were a reminder to me today about children and their importance.
2 Kings 5:2-5
Now on one of their raids into Isra’el’s territory, Aram carried away captive a little girl, who became a servant for Na‘aman’s wife. She said to her mistress, “I wish my lord could go to the prophet in Shomron! He could heal his tzara‘at.” Na‘aman went in and told his lord, “The girl from the land of Isra’el said such-and-such.” The king of Aram said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Isra’el.” (CJB)
A “little” girl who was a captive and servant, took the time to REMEMBER that there was a man in Shomron (Samaria) who could heal her mistress’ husband. She was BRAVE enough to tell her mistress about this man. Her mistress TRUSTED her servant and passed the information along to her husband.
Naaman then went and told the king about the man, to which the king said, “Go now - I will send a letter to the king of Israel!”
Naaman ended up being healed because of the FAITH of this “little” girl. Her belief in GOD and the MAN of God that she knew, allowed Naaman to be cleansed.
Naaman had to TRUST the words of a young servant girl. This girl could have been 8-10 years old, we don’t know! Even if she was 14, she was still a servant!
The challenge for us today is, “How much to do we TRUST our children that they HEAR from God?” Have we raised our children in such a way that the DO hear from God? When they bring information our way, what do we do with that information? Do we throw it aside because they are “young?” Or do we LISTEN believing that their CHILDLIKE FAITH might actually have heard something our muddled mess missed?
Take time to LISTEN to the young ones… They might actually have something important to tell us.
Love and blessings,
Rose
