He will LEVEL your path
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in Adonai with all your heart;
do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him;
then he will level your paths.
Two verses in Proverbs that are probable the most quoted and well-known.
This version is the Complete Jewish Bible. I don't always use it. I also appreciate the ESV and for certain situations The Passion Translation. However, I appreciate these two verses in the CJB.
I love the word Adonai. When I sing I love to use the word Adonai. There is such beauty in it.
I did a little research and found that the word used in the original Hebrew means "my lords." It is a plural word. An interesting little tidbit for a word we translate as "Lord." This is why many times we would see it translated as "Lord, Lord..." It also means "sovereignty." Yes, friends, our Creator is Sovereign. He will begin over ALL the earth one day!
The second part of the verse says, "do not rely on..." This we often hear as, "do not lean on..." I would say it speaks for itself in the first translation. Don't listen to your own understanding. Don't follow that path. Your judgement is based on human values. There are so many things that can be said about those couple words! It isn't just "don't lean on..." It's don't RELY on your knowledge.
If we acknowledge Him, than He will LEVEL our paths. Not just straighten them... There might still be some curves and it could be windy, but He promises to LEVEL it and make it easier to walk. When I read the Word "level" the first time I fell in love with it. Straighten seems to me that I can see what is coming. It always made me think that I should know what is happening next.
The word level doesn't give me that impression. It could mean He doesn't want me to see what is next because it is all about Trust and Faith. However, if my path is LEVEL I won't stumble as easily. I won't trip and fall because the ground is smooth for me to walk on.
Friends, that is the path we need to walk on today. The path that ACKNOWLEDGES Him so that He can direct us. He may not make the path or future "seeable," but He will make it okay for you to walk on.
Trust HIM today. Let Him have your heart. A simple Truth that brings LIFE.
Love and blessings,
