Be a Messenger!
Matthew 11:7-15
7 As they were leaving, Yeshua began speaking about Yochanan (John) to the crowds: “What did you go out to the desert to see? Reeds swaying in the breeze? 8 No? then what did you go out to see? Someone who was well dressed? Well-dressed people live in kings’ palaces. 9 Nu, so why did you go out? To see a prophet! Yes! and I tell you he’s much more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom the Tanakh (Scriptures) says,
‘See, I am sending out my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way before you.’
11 Yes! I tell you that among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than Yochanan the Immerser! Yet the one who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he! 12 From the time of Yochanan the Immerser until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been suffering violence; yes, violent ones are trying to snatch it away. 13 For all the prophets and the Torah prophesied until Yochanan. 14 Indeed, if you are willing to accept it, he is Eliyahu, whose coming was predicted. 15 If you have ears, then hear!
Once again the words bolded above are from the Old Testament. Jesus was quoting from the prophet Malachi in chapter 3:1
“Look! I am sending my messenger
to clear the way before me;
and the Lord, whom you seek,
will suddenly come to his temple.
Yes, the messenger of the covenant,
in whom you take such delight —
look! Here he comes,”
says Adonai-Tzva’ot.
I am sure that the followers of Jesus who had studied the Scriptures (Torah/Tanakh) had read the prophets and wondered when all the Words God had given would be fulfilled. From the time of Malachi to the time of Christ there is roughly 400 years. 400 YEARS of waiting for this "messenger" that Malachi spoke of!!!
Today, we receive a "Word" and we don't like waiting a month! We don't like waiting 2 years! One difference would be that a "Word" for a specific person would need to happen for that person in their lifetime. The Words the prophets had were for the Hebrew People and could span generations, but still, to wait 400 years??? I'm sure there were children and young people who were scoffing and laughing. People who "gave up" watching for a "Messiah" or "Messenger."
Don't ignore the Words of the Prophets simply because they are "old." If you believe that the Word of God is LIVING and ACTIVE than that means it SHOULD still have Truths and Promises that are relevant for today. Hold on to them and BELIEVE they are for YOU!
Jesus' Words "If you have ears, than hear!" are our challenge today. We should LISTEN to what has been said. We should HEAR and then obey. BE ACTIVE!
We have so many forms of technology today, that sending a Message HE gives you to someone is easy. Be HIS Messenger and share His Words and Truth with others.
Love and blessings,
Rose
