Shabbat is for the foreigner...
We have come to another Friday. Time for Shabbat. Here is another verse about this special day.
Isaiah 56:6-7
“And the foreigners who join themselves to Adonai
to serve him, to love the name of Adonai,
and to be his workers,
all who keep Shabbat and do not profane it,
and hold fast to my covenant,
I will bring them to my holy mountain
and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and sacrifices
will be accepted on my altar;
for my house will be called
a house of prayer for all peoples.” (CJB)
The first words are, “And the foreigners…” Foreigners are considered those who are not Jewish. There was a clear division between the Israelites and foreigners. You were either from one of the 12 tribes, or you were a “foreigner.”
Most people think that only the Jewish people are required to celebrate the festivals and Shabbat. This verse clearly states that those who “join themselves to Adonai to serve him…”
“ALL who keep Shabbat…”
These are the people who will be “brought to the holy mountain.”
God will make them “JOYFUL in His house of prayer.”
The house of prayer will be called a, “house of prayer for ALL PEOPLES.”
I believe it is time to stop and think about why Shabbat stopped being celebrated. Why, if God accepts it and says it is for ALL people, would someone choose not to celebrate this special day.
Take the time today to stop and ask yourself why… A day of rest never hurt anyone.
