Behave like a mentsh...
Today’s verse is from my YouVersion Bible App and showed up as my daily verse about a week ago. It was in the middle of Chanukah when I was sharing verses about light, so I chose to wait.
The verse is from I Corinthians 16:13-14
Stay alert, stand firm in the faith, behave like a mentsh, grow strong. Let everything you do be done in love. (CJB)
The first part of this verse is strong and powerful. STAY ALERT! STAND FIRM! These are all things that are expected and great reminders.
I laughed out loud when I read the next line, “behave like a mentsh.” So fun to say and interesting! I actually looked up what it means because I wanted to make sure that it meant what I thought.
This is what Wikipedia says, In Yiddish, mentsh roughly means "a good person”. With a different spelling it says, the German word Mensch meaning a "human being" means "a person of integrity and honor”
The ESV version says,
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
This is definitely something we need to do. We need to behave like a man/woman of God. We need to GROW STRONG.
Verse 14 just completes the whole lesson, “Let everything you do be done in LOVE.”
Enjoy this verse today. Enjoy a laugh. Use the word mentsh. Have fun! And do it ALL with LOVE.
In Him,
Rose
